Dear Readers,

Picture
In early 2009, I had the privilege of living with a family in Kenya, on an island in Lake Victoria called Rusinga. I volunteered there, lending assistance at the local health clinic. I came away profoundly affected by my experience on Rusinga, both by the health crisis that has devastated the people as well as by the warmth and optimism of the people in spite of this devastation. Despite the poverty, the HIV pandemic, the terrible drought that has plagued Kenya for 2 years and the fractured government that has been slow to support its people, the cheerful and compassionate spirit that pervades this culture has not been broken. Sadly, help for these people is scarce. Starting in February of 2010, I will be cycling across the U.S. to help raise awareness of this grave situation in southwestern Kenya. I also hope to raise funds that will lead to immediate, sustainable improvements to the lives of those who welcomed me so warmly into their community, and who so desperately need help. My fundraising target to achieve this is $5,000. With your support, we can get many people the care they deserve.
                     Thank you all,
                                 Bryan
